Gloucestershire sports fans are in for a summer treat, with the chance to cheer on Cheltenham tennis star Dan Evans in the first round at Wimbledon: The Championship 2022, it has been confirmed.

The 32-year-old tennis player who lives in Cheltenham has reached the third round three times before, with Gloucestershire supporters hoping 2022 is the year the local progresses further in the famous championships.

Dan Evans will be playing in the first round of Wimbledon against Australia’s Jason Kubler on Tuesday 28 June 2022, with the match expected to start at 4.35pm.

An impressive collection of British tennis stars are on the roster at Wimbledon this summer, with Cam Norrie, Andy Murray and Jack Draper joining Dan Evans in leading the challenge for Britain in the men’s singles – with all four in the top 100 of the ATP rankings and so assured of their place in the draw.

US Open champion Emma Raducanu will be leading the battle for a British women’s singles title on Wimbledon’s Centre Court, alongside Harriet Dart, Katie Boulter, Jodie Burrage, Heather Watson, Lily Miyazaki, Katie Swan and Sonay Kartal – plus numerous other wildcard male and female athletes from the UK.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club’s Championships 2022 will take place from Monday 27 June to Sunday 10 July 2022, with the men’s and ladies singles first round matches taking place on the first two days of the competition.

The Brewery Quarter in Cheltenham will be hosting a Wimbledon Big Screen for the free chance to watch Dan Evans and the rest of the tennis stars throughout the fortnight.
