Gloucestershire athlete makes history at Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Gloucestershire-based horse rider Charlotte Dujardin has won a Bronze medal in the individual dressage at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Gloucestershire-based athlete, Charlotte Dujardin, has become the most decorated British female Olympian.

Horse rider Charlotte, who lives in Newent, made her way into the history books when she won the Bronze medal for individual dressage in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Wednesday 28 July 2021.

Based at Carl Hester’s yard in Malswick, Charlotte’s horse Gio — nicknamed Pumpkin, as he arrived at her stables on Halloween — was relatively inexperienced prior to this award-winning display, having just three Grand Prix starts to his name. However, that didn’t stop him from putting on a show-stopping display.

This Bronze medal is Charlotte’s sixth and came just a day after she won her fifth when Great Britain took bronze in the team dressage final. This latest accolade will join her two gold medals from London 2012 and the silver and gold she won at Rio in 2016.

Team GB are currently sixth in the medal rankings at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with 16 medals: five gold, six silver and five bronze.
