SoGlos launches new Sport section inspiring Gloucestershire to get closer to the action

From experiencing the electric atmosphere of a big matchday to entering a local event, trying a new activity, or finding a grassroots club to join, SoGlos is putting participation at the heart of its brand-new Gloucestershire Sport section – officially launching this September 2026.

SoGlos's new Sport section is inspiring Gloucestershire audiences to get closer to the action – from world-class spectator sport and the county's biggest teams to grassroots clubs, activities and unique sporting experiences.

SoGlos is launching a dedicated new Gloucestershire Sport section this September 2026, with a distinctly SoGlos approach to covering the teams, clubs, events, activities and sporting opportunities that matter to people across the county.

With participation at the heart of its editorial approach, the new section will focus less on traditional match reporting and more on inspiring our audience to experience the action for themselves – making it easier to discover what to watch, where to go, what to try and how to take part.

The launch marks a natural evolution for SoGlos, which has been celebrating Gloucestershire's sporting life since launching in 2007. Now, as part of the continued development of our editorial output, that coverage is being expanded and brought together in one dedicated destination for the first time.

‘Sport plays an important role in life in Gloucestershire – from the thousands of fans supporting our professional teams to the clubs, events and activities that bring people together in communities across the county – and we know there is a strong appetite among our audience to experience more of it,’ Michelle Fyrne, SoPublishing CEO, said.

‘We’ve covered local sport throughout SoGlos’s 19-year history, so creating a dedicated home for it is a natural next step. But, importantly, we’re not trying to replicate the traditional sports desk.

‘Our approach will be curated and distinctly SoGlos. There are already excellent sources for scores, results and minute-by-minute reporting. Our role is different – to use our local knowledge, editorial expertise and understanding of our audience to help people discover the experiences and opportunities most relevant to them.

‘That could mean experiencing the atmosphere of a live match, trying a new activity, entering an event or discovering an exceptional grassroots club on your doorstep. Ultimately, we want our coverage to bring people closer to the action and make participating in Gloucestershire’s sporting life as accessible as possible.

‘We’ll celebrate the county’s biggest teams while also shining a light on the community clubs, people, events and opportunities that deserve a wider audience.’

The launch follows the introduction of SoGlos's dedicated Community section in May 2025, which has since become an integral part of its local coverage. SoGlos Sport represents the latest evolution of the independent media brand's editorial offering as it continues to develop around the interests and needs of its growing Gloucestershire audience.
