One of the biggest law firms operating in Gloucestershire has revealed an increase in turnover of £5 million, in annual results it has otherwise called ‘satisfactory’.
Harrison Clark Rickerbys, which has a major presence in Cheltenham, has just published its most recent annual results, showing turnover rose from £33.9 million in 2019 to £39 million in 2020.
Profits after tax were £3.8 million, up from £3.6 million in 2019, for the 12 months to 31 March 2020.
It is a report which makes little or no mention of any pending impact of the Covid-19 pandemic – referring to its key business risks and uncertainties as ‘other legal practices’.
Rod Thomas, managing partner at the law firm, said: ‘The external commercial environment is expected to remain challenging.
‘The directors are confident that the company will maintain its current level of performance in the future.’
A clue to what kept Harrison Clark Rickerbys busy through the rest of last year came in January (2021).
It was ranked by Experian as third most active legal adviser in the UK in mergers and acquisitions and the first in the south west through 2020.
Tim Ward, head of corporate based at the Cheltenham offices, said: ‘The market remains busy. Businesses are looking for opportunities despite the challenges of lockdowns and Brexit.’
