As companies looked under the bonnets of their businesses during the pandemic, a pioneering Gloucestershire business which has been helping managers deliver success for 26 years, saw demand for its service grow.
BookCheck was founded in 1994 and has been delivering services via what we now call ‘the cloud’ since 2003, helping firms better understand their financials with the clever use of Sage and Xero accounting software – but it is not a tech firm.
‘We are not a firm of accountants either, although we do have nine qualified accountants in our business,’ said Anthony Pilkington, the managing director and founder of a business which now has 60 staff and is accredited to ISO 9001:2015.
‘We solve three problems – bookkeeping, management accounts and payroll.
‘We remove the hassle and produce quality, up to date management information to allow owners to make decisions with confidence. A key benefit is saving management time and worry.’
Its fully templated link to a flexible Excel format avoids errors, keying time and technical issues. If it is in the accounting system then it can be reported in any way required.
The firm encourages clients towards Xero accounting and supports this with what it calls Migration plus Add-on Development (MAD).
BookCheck recently helped migrate the production control system of a well-known Gloucestershire manufacturer and exporter of sporting equipment, from an expensive version of Sage onto Xero.
The migration was seamless, took just one week and allowed the client to cope with a massive increase in orders due to the pandemic.
Whether a business has a turnover of £250,000 or £20 million, is from Gloucestershire or elsewhere in the UK, BookCheck offers an initial one-page report to show businesses the benefits it can bring.
‘Our job is to give clients clear management information they can use – either themselves, with their accountant or their finance director,’ said Mr Pilkington.
‘We score their accounting system and issue a 30-point check list coded in red, amber and green together with detailed notes. By the time we’ve settled down, everything on that list will be green.’
