Years & Years singer and critically acclaimed actor Olly Alexander is being strongly rumoured to become the new Doctor Who – Gloucestershire’s first Doctor Who!

A well-known LGBTQ+ advocate, Alexander would be the first openly gay actor to take on the title of Time Lord, if he replaces Jodie Whittaker in the role.

The multi-talented star, who grew up in Coleford in the Forest of Dean, cemented his acting credentials when appearing in Russel T Davies Channel 4 drama It’s a Sin earlier in the year.

And although, it hasn’t yet been announced that Whittaker will be leaving the show that she’s been star of since 2017, it is suspected that the next series, plus two special episodes, will conclude her time as the first female Doctor Who.

Other rumoured candidates for becoming the new Doctor Who include Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Michaela Coel, Richard Ayoade, Kelly Macdonald, Jodie Comer and Tom Rosenthal – with Olly Alexander appearing to garner most support on social media.

A BBC press officer told SoGlos ‘we will not be commenting on speculation’ so Gloucestershire’s Whovians will have to wait for an official confirmation about just who is taking over the TARDIS.
