Local music lovers are in for a treat this autumn, when Gloucester Cathedral welcomes the Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra to perform Holst’s The Planets.

The special centenary concert takes place within the iconic setting on Saturday 22 September 2018, offering the chance for audiences to enjoy a stunning performance of Holst’s classic Planets Suite.

The Planets Suite was written at the end of WWI, a time during which Holst worked with troops at Salonica; the concert is thus an apt start to Gloucester Cathedral’s series of events that commemorate the end of the war.

Conducted by Gloucester Cathedral’s director of music Adrian Partington, the concert pays homage to Holst’s status as the county’s best-known composer and Cheltenham resident, featuring the Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra.

What’s more to complement the great work and Gloucestershire’s musical legacy, the wonderful programme features local composer Vaughan Williams’ Lark Ascending, which will be performed by rising star Nazrin Rashidova with a violin solo.

Sure to delight the audience this September, the anticipated event will support the work of Cheltenham’s Holst Birthplace Museum; guests can look forward to brilliant entertainment, while a bar will be available for refreshments during the interval.
