Catch the misadventures of James Wormold, a British vacuum cleaner salesman turned terrible spy, in the comical Our Man in Havana at Cheltenham's Everyman Theatre this August 2026.
What can Cheltenham audiences expect from Our Man in Havana?
Adapted by Clive Francis from Graham Greene's 1958 novel, Our Man in Havana follows travelling Brit vacuum cleaner salesman James Wormold in pre-revolutionary Havana, Cuba. Struggling to financially support his spoiled daughter, James is recruited by an MI6 agent to become a spy.
Without any real spy skills or knowledge, James begins to fabricate a fictional network of agents and false reports about secret weapons. With MI6 believing his extravagant claims, real-world consequences begin to unfold as the Cuban government grows suspicious...
The cast stars Jack Ashton (Call the Midwife) as Wormold, alongside Bob Barrett (Holby City), Leon Ockenden (Waterloo Road) and Jodie Steele (SIX, Heathers – London and New York). Together, they play more than 30 characters across the production.
Directed by Philip Wilson, this chaotic comedy show was described as 'ingenious' by The Scotsman.
