About the board member role at Gloucester City Homes
The purpose of the board member role is to help shape Gloucester City Homes' strategy and direction, to ensure it serves the interests of its customers, service users, and the wider community.
Board members share responsibility for board decisions and ultimate governance of GCH, with some of the key responsibilities including:
- Setting and monitoring the strategic direction of GCH
- Ensuring plans are financially viable and approving audited financial statements
- Ensuring GCH is compliant with all legal, statutory, regulatory and constitutional requirements
- Providing oversight, support, direction, and constructive challenge to the CEO and other executives
- Approving salaries, benefits and terms of employment for executives and staff
- Reviewing board composition and holding subsidiary boards, committees and staff to account
- Establishing a positive workplace culture focused on the needs of customers and stakeholders
- Acting as ambassador for GCH at key events and meetings
The role requires candidates to commit to up to two days per month, including preparation for and attendance at eight committee meetings, four board meetings, and up to four strategic planning and board development days, for a fixed term of three years.

Remuneration and benefits
Board members receive £5,000 per annum, plus all relevant training required.
