From purpose-built opera houses hosting summer performances to big name pop artists and rock stars, Gloucestershire’s calendar is brimming with exciting music events and concerts to catch in 2022.

Gloucestershire is a vibrant county that’s packed with incredible cultural and music events, covering a spectrum of genres from jazz and opera to rock, pop and indie. And there’s so much to look forward to in 2022!

From atmospheric performances in purpose-built opera houses to open-air gigs in the Cotswolds, SoGlos has rounded up 12 music events taking place across Gloucestershire in 2022 that you won’t want to miss.

1. Cheltenham Jazz Festival

A must for aspiring musicians, the annual Cheltenham Jazz Festival is just one of the town’s famous festivals, taking place over the May bank holiday weekend – with the next event planned for Wednesday 27 April to Monday 2 May 2022.

Whether you’re looking for jazz legends, unique collaborations or just want to listen to some incredible music, Cheltenham Jazz Festival has hosted some of the world’s greatest musicians including Randy Crawford, Gregory Porter, Katie Melua and more.

2. Longborough Festival Opera

Opera fans will have the chance to enjoy brand-new productions from Longborough Festival Opera when it returns for its 2022 season from Monday 30 May to Tuesday 2 August 2022.

Nestled on a hillside in Moreton-in-Marsh, the purpose-built opera house will play host to atmospheric productions including Siegfried, Die tote Stadt and Carmen, with beautiful views over the Cotswolds for guests to soak up, too.

3. Cheltenham Music Festival

Returning every year, Cheltenham Music Festival is one of the most prestigious music festivals in the world, offering 12 days of sublime events for all ages from Friday 8 to Sunday 17 July 2022.

With a programme of show-stopping concerts in extraordinary local venues like Cheltenham Town Hall and Pittville Pump Room, the festival celebrates the very best of British music – with previous performers including Alfie Boe, Nicola Benedetti, Steven Isserlis and even the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

4. Guiting Music Festival

Bringing highly-talented performances of classical, jazz and blues music, Guiting Music Festival is a self-proclaimed ‘delightful niche festival’ that is held in Guiting Power near the picturesque Stow-on-the-Wold.

Musicians from around the world will descend upon the Cotswold Hills on Friday 22 to Sunday 31 July 2022 for an exciting array of performances which includes several evening concerts and two Sunday open-air concerts.

5. Three Choirs Festival

Music fans can head just over the Herefordshire border to Three Choirs Festival – the longest running, non-competitive classical music festival in the world – in 2022.

Rotating between the gorgeous English cathedral cities of Hereford, Gloucester and Worcester, the 2022 event takes place at Hereford Cathedral from Saturday 23 to Saturday 30 July 2022, featuring a programme packed with concerts, services, recitals, masterclasses, exhibitions and more. With the 2023 event returning to Gloucester.

6. Forest Live

Forest Live is coming to Westonbirt, The National Arboretum from Thursday 9 to Sunday 12 June 2022, with a stellar line-up of musicians including Rag’n’Bone Man, Keane, Madness and Jess Glynne set to perform at the Cotswold attraction.

The performances will all help to raise money to look after the nation’s forests and there’s even a new ‘four-show ticket’ option for 2022, giving anyone who wants to attend all four concerts a 50 per cent discount on the usual booking fees.

7. 2000trees

With over 100 acts on the bill, including pop punk icons Jimmy Eat World, 2000trees is returning to Upcote Farm near Cheltenham from Thursday 7 and Saturday 9 July 2022.

Alongside camping facilities and the obligatory silent disco, the multi-award-winning festival is regularly shortlisted by the UK Festival Awards for offering festivalgoers some of the nicest toilets!

8. The Big Feastival

Hosted on a farm belonging to Blur bassist turned cheesemaker Alex James, The Big Feastival is returning to the Cotswolds from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 August 2022.

Combining a passion for music and good food, the festival’s 10th anniversary line-up in 2021 featured performances from Sigala, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Zara Larsson, Tom Walker and Ella Eyre – with big names expected for 2022, as well as live-cookery demos, street food, family activities and silent discos.

9. Lakefest

Taking place at Eastnor Deer Park in neighbouring Herefordshire, music fans can enjoy a vibrant festival experience at the foot of the Malvern Hills when Lakefest returns from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 August 2022.

In 2021, headline performances from Razorlight, Tom Jones and Seasick Steve were supplemented by circus shows, open mic sessions, lakeside meditation and even a free fall parachute display. With a dedicated kids’ area and half-price entry to Eastnor Castle for festivalgoers, too.

10. McFly’s Ultimate Summer Party

Popular boyband McFly is set to take to the stage at Gloucester Park on Friday 10 June 2022, in a hotly anticipated event that’s been rescheduled from July 2021.

Tom, Danny, Dougie and Harry will be joined by radio DJ and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here star, Roman Kemp, as they perform all their greatest hits from ‘All About You’ and ‘Obviously’ to ‘Star Girl’ – as well as some new tracks from their latest album

11. Witcombe Festival

Promising to bring more killer artists to Gloucestershire in 2022, Witcombe Festival is returning for another year of high-energy performances from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 August 2022.

Headlined by the likes of Basement Jaxx, John Newman and Tinie Tempah in 2021, the fast-growing festival gets bigger and better every year, attracting over 25,000 music lovers from across the county and beyond.

12. Wychwood Festival

Back after a two-year hiatus, the family-favourite Wychwood Festival is returning to Cheltenham Racecourse from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 June 2022.

Highlights from previous years have included music from Rag’n’Bone Man, Scouting for Girls and Shed Seven, alongside comedy and performing arts workshops for all ages – not to mention there’s hot showers at Wychwood’s luxury campsite!
