Italian sportswear brand, Macron, is opening a new store at Gloucester Quays.

The brand – which is the technical kit partner and retail partner for Gloucester Rugby – has signed for a 2,200 sq ft unit next to Jack Wills and AllSaints, with the new store aiming to strengthen its presence in Gloucester, along with its sports hub at Gloucester Business Park.

Macron joins Gloucester Quays' lineup of existing sportswear brands, including Adidas, Asics and Puma, with sports brands at the Quays having seen a three percent year-on-year increase in sales.

Bringing a range of 'high performance sportswear' to the centre, the new store will stock the official Gloucester Rugby men's and Gloucester-Hartpury women's rugby team kits.

The signing comes as Gloucester Quays prepares to kick off its summer of sport, where it will be showing the World Cup, Wimbledon, the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, The Masters, the Commonwealth Games and the UEFA Women's Champions League on a big screen in Pillar & Lucy Square.

Paul Carter, asset director at Peel Retail & Leisure, which operates Gloucester Quays, said: 'The signing of Macron is reflective of Gloucester Quays’ appeal to activewear brands, and its Gloucester Rugby partnership showcases the importance of local sporting heritage to the destination and its operators.

'Macron arrives at an ideal time too, with the Summer of Sport activation set to bring in sports fans from across the city, driving engaged footfall and creating opportunities for our well-aligned retail and leisure line up.'

Senior technical sports marketing manager at Macron, Ross Cook, added: 'Macron’s arrival at Gloucester Quays is a natural next step, building on our strong connection with the city’s sporting community and the destination’s commitment to offering leading sportswear apparel and lifestyle ranges.

'As a secondary official retail store of the iconic Gloucester Rugby and Gloucester-Hartpury collections, this store will provide supporters and fans with an exciting new way to engage with both clubs. We’re also looking forward to connecting with even more fans through the upcoming Summer of Sport event and becoming an integral part of the vibrant sporting culture at Gloucester Quays.'

The official opening date for Macron has not yet been confirmed.
