Gloucestershire County Council has appointed a new deputy chief executive and executive director of corporate resources. After a unanimous decision, Nina Philippidis will take up the role from March 2024.

Philippidis is currently the service director of finance and chief financial officer at South Gloucestershire Council, where she has been for the last six years, as well as being the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy representative for the south west region; a member of the Public Finance Management Board; chief financial officer to the Local Government Association; and a member of the Executive Board for the Society of Municipal Treasurers.

She has previously held senior finance roles at Cheltenham Borough Council, too.

Her role at Gloucestershire County Council will involve being the council's statutory finance officer; leading other corporate services including communications, HR, ICT and property; and joining the council's corporate leadership team to develop the council's wider work.

She said: 'This is a fantastic opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started. I am passionate about delivering public services that truly add value to the lives of those who rely on us. It is clear that Gloucestershire has much to be proud of in this regard and I look forward to working with the many dedicated staff and councillors at the council, along with partners to continue building and delivering the best possible services for communities across Gloucestershire.'

Leader of Gloucestershire County Council, councillor Mark Hawthorne, added: 'Nina impressed at every stage of the interview process and there is no doubt that she will be a true asset to the county council and to Gloucestershire as a whole. Nina’s unwavering commitment to delivering for communities and strong track record in financial management really shone through. I look forward to working with Nina.'
