The Alchemist in Cheltenham is hosting a one-day-only swap shop to encourage food bank donations in exchange for free cocktails on Tuesday 13 October 2020.

Teaming up with Grey Goose and charity partner Foodinate, customers who donate at least one non-perishable food item throughout the day, will receive a cocktail to enjoy at the new Brewery Quarter bar and restaurant or takeaway. All donations will then be given to The Gloucester City Mission to distribute to those in need.

The Covid-19 pandemic has seen an increase in people relying on food banks across the UK, with 100,000 households using them for the first time over lockdown according to the Trussell Trust.

As well as receiving 3,000 donations in its swap shop last year, The Alchemist also funds a hot meal for a person in need every time a customer orders a menu item marked with the Foodinate fork logo – with 65,000 meals provided across the UK so far.

Hannah Plumb, culture and talent director at The Alchemist, said: ‘We love the work that Foodinate does. It’s a truly fantastic charity tackling food poverty across the country, which is an issue we’re particularly passionate about at The Alchemist.

‘The Swap Shop is a fun and engaging way to encourage customers to donate to their local food banks, who are in need of donations now more than ever.’
