Another five locations in Gloucestershire are set to get access to the very fastest broadband, according to Openreach.

The infrastructure provider has revealed the next batch of towns and villages its engineers will be hooking up to ‘ultra-reliable full-fibre’ include Cheltenham, Bishops Cleeve, Shurdington, Barnwood and Hardwicke.

Connie Dixon, infrastructure provider Openreach’s regional director for the south west, said: ‘Just last month (June 2021) we announced 181 rural and hard to reach locations across the south west were to benefit, so it’s great that we’re able to reveal another huge broadband boost for the region with these additional locations.

May 2021’s announcement included Gloucestershire homes and businesses served by the telephone exchanges in Abson; Amberley; Berkeley; Bourton-On-The-Water; Brimscombe; Cinderford; Coleford; Drybrook; Dursley; Fairford; Lechlade; Lydney; Marshfield; Nailsworth; Newent; Northleach; Pilning; Rangeworthy; South Cerney; Stonehouse; Tetbury; Whitecroft; and Winchcombe.

‘The latest details and timescales are available on our website as the build planning progresses,’ Dixon added.

Openreach has launched a recruitment drive expecting to create 1,000 new roles in 2021 to enable it to carry out its plans, of which 200 were in the south west.
