Sudeley Castle reopens fully for the first time since lockdown

The historic Cotswold venue is reopening its indoor rooms and exhibitions for the first time since lockdown began in March 2020.

Sudeley Castle and Gardens is reopening the doors to its rooms and exhibitions this June 2021, for the first time since lockdown started in March 2020.

Having been closed for 15 months due to the pandemic, visitors can finally explore indoors again, with the family’s private castle rooms; exhibitions, including the recently refurbished Royal Sudeley exhibition; and St Mary’s Church where Henry VIII’s last wife, Katherine Parr, rests are all fully reopening to the public.

As well as documenting the castle’s eventful 1000-year history, Sudeley’s indoor rooms and exhibitions include a huge collection of artwork, with paintings by Van Dyke and Turner, as well as the Tudor Succession Planning which was commissioned by Queen Elizabeth I in 1572.

Sudeley Castle’s general manager, Shane Samarawikrema, said: ‘Summer is such a wonderful time for us at Sudeley Castle with our rooms and exhibition now fully open, set against the backdrop of 10 award winning gardens and not forgetting our adventure playground and Pheasantry.

‘This is a chance to make magical memories with the whole family, as visitors can fully explore our historic surroundings.’

The Castle Kitchen Pantry and The Terrace Café are both fully reopening too, with the Terrace Café offering visitors a chance to dine in the banqueting hall with an extended menu of hot and cold dishes made from locally sourced produce, as well as specialty coffees.

Tickets to Sudeley Castle must be pre-booked in advance and availability is limited.
