WWT and Slimbridge Wetland Centre celebrates 75th year

Founded in 1946, WWT and Slimbridge Wetland Centre celebrated its 75th anniversary in September 2021 – with a special event to mark the occasion.

Founded by Peter Scott, son of Antarctic explorer Captain Scott, WWT and Slimbridge Wetland Centre celebrated its milestone 75th anniversary on Thursday 16 September 2021, with an event focused on the past, present, and future of WWT’s conservation work, as well as completion of its 2020 project.

Back in 2016, WWT was awarded £4.5 million National Lottery Heritage Funding towards a project to continue the work in memory of Sir Peter Scott, including work on eight new exhibits – includes the Living Wetland Theatre and Waterscapes Aviary, the largest of its expansion project.

General Manager at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre, Gary Haseley-Nejrup, said: ‘The official completion of our Slimbridge 2020 project and celebration of WWT’s 75th anniversary was a huge success! It was so exciting to be able to share our unique new Living Wetland Theatre and Waterscapes Aviary. What better way to mark our 75th year!’.
