Competitors to descend on small Gloucestershire village for annual pancake race

One of Gloucestershire's many wonderfully wacky races is back for 2024, with people bringing their pans to Dursley to compete in the annual Pancake Race this Shrove Tuesday.

Celebrating Pancake Day in a flipping pan-tastic way, Dursley's Pancake Race returns this February 2024.

Prove your pancake tossing talent at this year's Dursley Pancake Race, as the annual event returns to the town on Tuesday 13 February 2023.

This quirky tradition takes place on Shrove Tuesday each year, with runners competing against each other in a race down Parsonage Street, flipping pancakes as they go.

Racers will have to toss their pancakes six times in total — once at the start of the race, twice on the way up, once at the halfway point as they turn around, then twice more on the way back to cross the finish line — all while keeping up their speed!

The fastest pancake flipper will win the title for 2024 but the best dressed will also be rewarded — with a trophy for the best fancy dress on the day, judged by the town's mayor.

Simply turn up at The King's Head pub by 11.55am to enter on the day, for a 12pm start — not forgetting to bring your own six- to eight-inch pan and pancake, all ready to flip!

Plus, as this year's race coincides with school half-terms, a special child-only race will take place, too.

There's usually a small fee to enter, with a local charity benefiting from the money raised, but details are yet to be confirmed.
