From Thursday 2 to Saturday 4 June 2022, visitors will get to experience a traditional charcoal burn at Dean Heritage Centre, one of the only places in the UK to see the historical wood burning custom take place.

While the stack burns, expert volunteers will be on hand to give visitors an insight into the life of a charcoal burner and explain how the locally sourced wood is transformed into charcoal – an ancient process that was once integral to the local area’s thriving iron industry.

Family friendly entertainment will also be taking place with plenty of activities celebrating local crafts, crafters and the unique heritage of the Forest of Dean.
