Charles Russell Speechlys, which has offices in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, London and Cheltenham, has welcomed a new partner to its banking and finance team, to bolster its ongoing growth.

Philip Withey joins the firm from Womble Bond Dickinson UK LLP, where he was a partner specialising in banking and finance for more than 17 years.

He brings extensive experience advising both lenders and borrowers on a range of acquisition, asset, structured, development and project finance transactions — as well as working with key clients on derivatives trading, regulatory matters, secondary debt trading, restructuring and sub-participation.

Maintaining a strong local market connection in the south west, Philip's focus is on expanding his international work in the energy sector and building a secure track record dealing with complex financing transactions.

Partner and head of banking and finance at Charles Russell Speechlys, Daniel Sullivan, said: 'Philip’s appointment further strengthens our banking and finance practice and the services we are able to offer our clients.

'He is an experienced practitioner with a developed practice and brings across a range of skills, experience and contacts that will sit well within the group. We wish him a warm welcome.'

Philip added: 'The firm so far seems like a great cultural fit, and I am excited to meet and collaborate with my new colleagues to identify areas of overlap that will benefit all of our clients.

'I expect to use my experience in real estate finance, corporate finance transactions, client development and transaction management to contribute to the sustainable growth of the practice.'

Charles Russell Speechlys has already appointed six partners or consultant-level hires on the transactional side of the business in 2024 alone, with Philip joining just one month after Jeremy Bell was announced as a senior consultant in the financial services regulation and funds group.
