Congratulations to the BAFTA TV Awards 2021 winners – some of which have Gloucestershire connections.

Gloucestershire has seen its fair share of small screen fame, with popular filming locations to discover across the county and several Netflix shows with a local connection, too.

And we were thrilled to see the county represented when this year’s BAFTA TV Awards winners were revealed on Sunday 6 June 2021.

BBC’s This Country was nominated in categories across the board, with Charlie Cooper taking home the award for Male Performance in a Comedy Programme on the night.

Winning the award for his portrayal of Kurtan, Cooper also co-wrote the show alongside his sister and co-star, Daisy May Cooper. The hilarious mockumentary-style sitcom follows the lives of two cousins living in a small Cotswold village and was filmed on location in Northleach.

Meanwhile, Aimee Lou Wood scooped the award for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme, winning for her role as Aimee Gibbs in Netflix’s Sex Education – which features filming locations in the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley.

Another series which makes use of Gloucestershire’s gorgeous backdrops, BBC’s His Dark Materials also won awards in the categories of Special, Visual and Graphic Effects; and Sound: Fiction.

The fantasy drama, based on Phillip Pullman’s epic trilogy of novels, features local locations including Woodchester Mansion, Purton Ships Graveyard and Puzzlewood.
