Starring Olivier Award-winner, Matthew Kelly and comic, Julian Clary, this brand-new performance of Ronald Harwood’s acclaimed drama is a funny and affectionate portrait of life backstage at the theatre, coming to the Everyman Theatre stage on Tuesday 21 to Saturday 25 September 2021.

Working as a dresser to an ageing actor known as Sir, Norman is a devoted member of staff who ensures that the show goes on as Sir’s performance of King Lear falls apart.

Exploring the relationship between two men who are reluctantly co-dependent, the play sees the once famous Shakespearean actor unwilling to perform, as his faithful dresser tries to rouse a performance from him, keeping both the show and its star from falling apart – with the pair of actors hoping to bring ‘tremendous pathos’ to the roles.
