The Dresser play at Everyman Theatre

Thursday 10 to Saturday 19 September 2020

Everyman Theatre has joined forces with Theatre Royal Productions Bath to stage a brand-new production of Ronald Harwood’s acclaimed drama, The Dresser.

Working as a dresser to an aging actor known as Sir, Norman is a devoted member of staff who ensures that the show goes on as Sir’s performance of King Lear falls apart.

Starring Olivier Award winner, Matthew Kelly and successful comic, Julian Clary, this brand-new performance of Ronald Harwood’s acclaimed drama is a funny and affectionate portrait of life backstage at the theatre.

Exploring the relationship between two men who are reluctantly co-dependent, the play sees a once famous Shakespearean actor unwilling to perform, as his faithful dresser must rouse a performance from him, to keep both the show and its star from falling apart.

Coming to Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre from Thursday 10 September to Saturday 19 September 2020, the pair are hoped to bring ‘tremendous pathos’ to the roles of Norman and his dresser.
