New Cotswold amphitheatre launches its first ever season with a packed programme of performances

Offering creative catering, scenic picnics, moonlit plays and open-air concerts, the Cotswolds newest theatre, the Amphitheatre at Berrybank Park, is gearing up for a star-studded series of performances, this summer 2022.

The Cotswolds has a brand-new venue for alfresco performances, as the Amphitheatre at Berrybank Park opens for its first ever season this June 2022.

Featuring a varied programme of events, including the launch of the inaugural Cotswold Comedy Festival, the summer season at the Amphitheatre at Berrybank Park in Oddington runs from Tuesday 14 June through to Sunday 4 September 2022.

Visitors to the Amphitheatre can enjoy performances in a unique setting, with a grassed, 500-seat open-air theatre set on an ancient wold with expansive views across the picturesque Evenlode valley.

Kicking off its programme of performing arts is Shakespeare’s Globe on Tour’s production of Julius Caesar – with more Shakespeare in the form of the HandleBard’s laugh-out-loud production of Twelfth Night and a new adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by The Duke’s Theatre Company later on in the season.

Walked Out One Midsummer Morning celebrates Gloucestershire-born writer, Laurie Lee, in an event that combines music with writings from Cider with Rosie to A Moment of War, telling stories from the Cotswolds to the Spanish Civil War.

On top of its outdoor theatre performances, there’s plenty more to enjoy with jazz, opera, Broadway and West End music; outdoor cinema screenings; family events; cabaret; the Real Garden Festival, which involves a day of discovery, ecology and music; alongside the first ever Cotswold Comedy Festival, featuring names such as Marcus Brigstocke, Arthur Smith, Jo Caulfield and lots more well-known comedians.

The summer programme of music, theatre and comedy is set to close with Picnic in the Park Proms and Fireworks with the Jaguar Land Rover Band, in aid of Kate’s Home Nursing.

The site also benefits from a lantern-lit, Brighton Pavilion-inspired marquee, which offers refreshments and a licensed bar, as well as a restaurant celebrating local produce – and doubles up as an alternative performance space, if the weather turns bad.
