An £11 million scheme to build two new business units in Stonehouse, which developers say could provide ‘hundreds of jobs’ for the town, has been given the go ahead by planners.
Stroud District councillors unanimously backed the scheme by Gloucestershire developer, Robert Hitchins, for the 53,500 square foot and 22,000 square foot buildings.
Local authority approval means work is now expected to begin on the six-acre site close to junction 13 of the M5 later in 2022 – and talks with a potential occupier for one of the units are said to be ‘well advanced’.
Michael Plimmer, senior development manager at Boddington-headquartered Robert Hitchins, said: ‘Stroudwater 13 offers a great opportunity for new industrial, manufacturing and warehouse development in an area which has been starved of any significant commercial development for some time due to the lack of available employment land.
‘The development will provide modern, state-of-the-art facilities and important jobs for local people as part of a sustainable, mixed-use development.’
The site in Oldends Lane is off a new roundabout on the new link road between Stroudwater Business Park – home to giants including Schlumberger, Renishaw and Dairy Crest – and the mixed-use Great Oldbury Scheme, which includes 1,300 new homes.
The marketing agents are Cushman and Wakefield and Alder King.
