Editor's Choice FreeCirencester’s New Brewery Arts presents an intriguing new exhibition inspired by online resource, the Index of Convalescence.
Taking place from Saturday 16 April to Saturday 18 June 2022, Craft of Convalescence explores themes of disability, illness and grief, along with crafting as a form of rehabilitation.
Contemporary jeweller Rachael Colley and dancer Inari Hulkkonen were invited to respond to the Index of Convalescence by curators Laura Mansfield and Swen Steinhäuser, with the resulting collaboration spanning sculpture and dance and asking questions on the processes of object-making and handling – and how these relate to the repetitive, task-based rituals of rehabilitation.
Juxtaposing bursts of controlled, concentrated movement with the ‘attentive calm of the drift of convalescence’ the exhibition is sure to be a thought-provoking experience.
Craft of Convalescence is being exhibited in the main gallery at New Brewery Arts and is free to attend.
