Regenerate your business

Business West is staging this free event for business leaders on Friday 2 September from 9.30am to 12.30pm at the Forest of Dean's Wilderness Centre in Mitcheldean.

This is the taster session for three 'intensive weekends' at the Wilderness Centre. The first is later this month (see 11 below), which will help guests learn from regenerative businesses that have thrived through downturns and give insight into how they involved their customers in designing new value offerings.

Create your social media strategy

This free workshop is due to be staged at Tewkesbury Growth Hub on Tuesday 6 September 2022, aimed at those in charge of a business’s social media who are looking to learn more.

Led by Emma Provins, director and co-owner of Skylight9, the workshop will take place from 9am to noon.

She will explain everything you need to know about social media strategy for business, from branding to targeting the right audience, which channels to use, how to create a quick annual plan and a monthly schedule (as well as covering off hashtags, campaigns, video, plus frequency of posting).

Develop a roadmap strategy for your business

This free workshop on Thursday 8 September 2022 at The Growth Hub’s Oxstalls base in Longlevens is designed to break down the barriers to being able to create an easy-to-understand roadmap strategy for your business.

Aimed at business owners and leadership teams with responsibility for strategy and directors, the workshop will be led by Clayton Manley, of Business Doctors, a former managing director with 30 years experience in a commercial and sales environment.

Build a leaner business

Due to take place South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS), Stroud, from 10am to 1pm on Monday 12 September 2022, this workshop will show how to reduce business costs, improve service delivery and improve quality.

Granger Forson, of Gloucestershire firm Abbeysmart Ltd, is the speaker for the free session and will share techniques that can dramatically improve the culture of your business and its processes to solve problems.

Create a month’s worth of social media in a matter of hours

This workshop is due to take place on Wednesday 14 September 2022 from 10am to 1pm at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester. It's all about showing how to create great social media posts quickly and consistently to drive brand recognition and increase sales.

Free to attend, you will be learning from experienced social media advisor Caroline McShane of Social Honeycomb, who provides training and management to a variety of businesses and individuals, predominantly within sports, health and wellbeing industries.

Networking and good food

Gloucester-headquartered Tayntons Solicitors will hold its next Curry Club at The Nepalese Chef in Gloucester on Wednesday 14 September 2022 from noon until 2pm. It promises not just good food but a great opportunity to renew your business contacts and make some new ones.

The cost of attending is £25 per person to include a starter and main. Tickets must be booked in advance and limited spaces are available for this long-running and popular gathering.

How to keep your staff engaged

The Growth Hub’s Forest of Dean home, at Vantage Point Business Village, Mitcheldean, is due to host this free workshop on Thursday 15 September 2022 from 10am to 1pm, aimed at helping businesses retain their staff.

Sarah Taylor Phillips, of Gloucestershire-based Career Voyage Ltd, will lead the session in which she will give points of focus to help ensure your business keeps the staff it wants to keep at a time when the jobs market continues to throw up challenges.

How to successfully apply for a patent

This series of one-to-one sessions on Thursday 15 September 2022 still has some places and will give the chance to sit down face to face with Florian Bazant-Hegemark, of Cheltenham’s Concept IP, to talk intellectual property.

Through one-to-one Zoom sessions, he will provide an insight into the patent system and offer tips on how to make it work as a commercial tool for your company. Free, and due to take place from 10am to 1pm, it's staged by Tewkesbury’s The Growth Hub.

Lunchtime business networking in Gloucester

WSP Solicitors’ long-running business networking event, Tapas Tuesday, is back on Tuesday 20 September 2022 from noon to 2pm.

Guest speaker for the month is Carol Francis – the first Black female councillor for Gloucester City Council and the city's first Black sheriff and deputy mayor.

This is your chance to renew old contacts and make some new ones while enjoying good food and an engaging talk. The not-for-profit event costs £12.50 per person, which includes a selection of tapas and a drink.

SoGlos and Optimising IT golf day

Key figures from the Gloucestershire business community and beyond will take to the fairways of Brickhampton Court Golf Complex on Thursday 22 September 2022 for the first ever invitation-only SoGlos Gloucestershire Golf Day, in partnership with Gloucestershire IT experts Optimising IT.

This will be the second in the series of events being staged by SoGlos in support of a business community still adding face-to-face events back into diaries after so long dominated by online only events imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Challenge yourself and reconnect

This Business West leadership course will teach you how to make your business more robust, learn from inspiring case studies, generate unbeatable customer loyalty, turn net zero into an opportunity for innovation and save costs, design a truly regenerative product offering and understand how to play your part in revitalising your local community.

Following on from the free taster session (see 1 above), each of the three weekend course options take place outdoors at the Forest of Dean Wilderness Centre.

Prices start from £1,950 (£2,500 non-members of Business West). The dates are Friday 30 September to Friday 2 October 2022; Friday 2 December to Sunday 4 December 2022 and the third on Friday 17 February to Sunday 19 February 2023.

Entrepreneurs’ network event

Start and Grow Enterprise, which exists to help  freelancers, entrepreneurs and new businesses in Gloucestershire start and grow, is due to stage its latest Entrepreneurs’ Network event at Oxstalls Sports Centre, Gloucester, on Wednesday 14 September 2022 from 10am to noon.

Aimed at Gloucestershire-based entrepreneurs and SMEs, these free monthly gatherings feature guest speakers and offer ‘a chance to gain valuable tips and insights from professionals and experts, and other start-ups (trading up to three years) and entrepreneurs’, as well as connect and share skills, and hear about the support available to your new or growing business from Start and Grow Enterprise, based at the University of Gloucestershire.

Businesses help stage beer festival

We don't usually accommodate charity events in our diary dates section, but found it hard to ignore Gloucester Rotary Club's beer festival on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 September 2022, as it is supported by so many city businesses.

Sponsored by construction firm Barnwood, Allstone Speedy Skips, MBC Timber Frame and Langley Wellington LLP Solicitors, it is due to take place at The Farmers Club in Sandhurst Road and promises more than 50 beers and ciders (plus a gin bar). Doors open from 12.30pm. Tickets are £5, or £7.50 for both days.
