After being postponed in 2020, Guiting Music Festival is finally celebrating its 50-year anniversary in 2021 – bringing a spectacular line up of classical, jazz and blues music to the Cotswolds this summer.
Taking place from Friday 23 July to Sunday 1 August 2021, see 10 incredible acts across 10 days with a series of open-air concerts in the picturesque Cotswold village of Guiting Power near Stow-on-the-Wold.
This year’s Festival opens on Friday 23 July 2021 with a dynamic performance by jazz and soul singer, Izo Fitzroy, accompanied by gospel backing vocals and her unique band.
AKA Trio bring a fusion of culture and sound to their set, with influences from Europe, Africa and South America combining to create joyous, uplifting music played by virtuosos Adriano Adewale, Antonio Forcione and Seckou Keit. See them perform on Saturday 24 July 2021.
Then on Sunday 25 July 2021 sees The Seddon Deadly Sins performing jazz inspired by Duke Ellington and Fats Waller, and The Vitality Five Jazz Band performing ‘hot stomps’ in their authentic 1920s style at an open-air jazz concert.
See the all-female classical saxophone quartet, Marici Saxes, perform a packed set on Monday 26 July 2021; classical guitarist, Xuefei Yang, perform Illustrations from East and West on Tuesday 27 July 2021; and celebrated cellist, Raphael Wallfisch, perform music by Delius, Elgar and Grieg with pianist John York on Wednesday 28 July 2021.
On Thursday 29 July 2021, BBC Concert Orchestra soloist and winner of the 2010 BBC Young Musician competition, Lara Melda, will perform a set including Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev.
On Friday 30 July 2021, The Albion Quartet return to the festival performing music by Haydn and Brahms, as well as being joined by Joanna MacGregor for a piano quintet. Joanna will then take to the stage on Saturday 31 July 2021 to perform her innovative interpretations of Bach, Beethoven, Schumann and more, as well as her own tribute to Nina Simone.
Blues-lovers can enjoy an open-air blues concert with British Blues Awards winner Rebecca Downes; Ian Parker; and Trevor ‘Babajack’ Steger providing a fantastic finale to the festival on Sunday 1 August 2021.
Tickets for Guiting Music Festival go on general sale on Monday 21 June 2021.
