Cotswold District Council has approved plans to build a new Aldi store and Costa Coffee drive-thru in Bourton-on-the-Water, at a planning committee meeting this September 2026.
The new store, which is due to be located at Bourton Industrial Park off Fosse Way, represents an investment of £7 million into the local economy, and is set to create 60 full- and part-time jobs – 40 at Aldi and 20 at Costa Coffee.
The plans also include a 127-space car park, including accessible and parent and child bays, 10 EV charging points with additional infrastructure for 24 more, along with a new signalised junction between Fosse Way and Meadow Way.
'Attractive' landscaping is also set to be incorporated throughout the site, to complement the surrounding area.
Aldi says it wants to 'improve consumer choice and competition' in the area and promote sustainable travel patterns, with 'residents no longer needing to travel further afield for affordable healthy food and fresh produce', and welcomed the council's decision, as well as the strong local support the plans received throughout the planning process.
Aldi's real estate director, Rob Jones, said: 'We're delighted that planning permission has been granted for our new Aldi store and Costa Coffee drive-thru in Bourton-on-the-Water. This approval marks an important milestone for the project and will enable us to bring increased choice, convenience and investment to the local area.
