Cheltenham Literature Festival’s Lit Crawl is going virtual for the first time, as it joins the LitQuake Lit Crawl Global on Saturday 24 October 2020.

The first virtual Lit Crawl involves live streamed performances from literature festivals around the world, with Cheltenham-based independent theatre company Moth Sanctuary Productions chosen to represent Cheltenham Literature Festival.

Performing a dramatised reading of poetry by Edgar Allan Poe, along with original monologues, the virtual performance will be Moth Sanctuary Productions’ fifth appearance at the Cheltenham Lit Crawl, having been involved since the event launched in 2016.

In previous years, Cheltenham’s Lit Crawl has taken over pubs, bookshops and art galleries for a night of pop-up events during Cheltenham Literature Festival, but it is unable to take place in 2020 due to the current government restrictions.

Alongside the virtual event, there will also be a series of socially distanced talks from previous Lit Crawl participants, including Moth Sanctuary Productions, at Cheltenham’s Imperial Gardens from Friday 2 to Sunday 11 October 2020.

Artistic director and founder of Moth Sanctuary Productions, Andrew Bate, said: ‘It’s fantastic that Moth Sanctuary Productions has been chosen to represent Cheltenham for this year’s global Lit Crawl and will be joining the ranks of other talented speakers, writers and performers around the world.

‘Moth Sanctuary Productions’ first show took place at the very first Cheltenham Lit Crawl in 2016 and we’ve been very fortunate to be able to bring our unique style of gothic literary theatre to the event every year since – from performing poems in a graveyard to presenting a gender-swapped version of Frankenstein.’

See Moth Sanctuary Productions perform at the LitQuake Lit Crawl Global at 8pm on Saturday 24 October 2020.
