Hidden within No. 131, Bar Tokyo has been redesigned as an intimate new space centred around cocktails, low lighting and Japanese-inspired small plates, this spring.
Designed as a more immersive cocktail experience to its neighbouring No. 131 Japanese restaurant, YOKU, the new-look bar combines moody interiors featuring black and white prints of famous faces, with a menu inspired by Japanese flavours and Tokyo drinking culture.
Alongside the drinks menu, which includes signature serves like the YOKU Martini, Moon Garden and Tokyo Sour cocktails, guests can order dishes from Bar Tokyo’s Tokyo Bites selection, featuring smaller plates designed for lighter dining and sharing between cocktails.
Options include Japanese classics such as karaage chicken and pork gyoza, alongside ebi tacos filled with diced tiger prawn, lotus and shiso, plus delicate sashimi featuring chalk stream trout, hamachi and tuna. Plant-based options include crispy rice cakes topped with avocado, yuzu and wasabi.
Food is served directly to the table, encouraging guests to settle in and enjoy a relaxed pace throughout the evening.
The relaunch adds another experience to No.131, one of Cheltenham’s best-known hospitality destinations, co-owned by Gloucestershire entrepreneurs Julian Dunkerton and Jade Holland Cooper.
