Emmaus Gloucestershire, a charity that helps formerly homeless people in the county, is reopening its Gloucester and Nailsworth charity shops on Monday 15 June 2020.

Its charity shops have been closed for 12 weeks due to the Coronavirus lockdown, but are now preparing for a phased reopening, with the Gloucester and Nailsworth charity shops being the first two to welcome customers back.

Emmaus hopes to reopen the other three shops in Cheltenham, Stroud and Nailsworth in the coming weeks.

Chief Executive, Joe Feeley, said: ‘We have closely followed advice from the Government and Charity Retail Association and have implemented new measures in our Gloucester and Nailsworth shops to ensure it is safe to re-open.

‘All staff and volunteers have been fully trained on the new measures and will be equipped with face coverings and disposable gloves. Hand sanitiser points have been installed throughout the shop, as well as markings to direct customers. We will be limiting the number of customers at any one time to maintain social distancing and have changed the layout in our shops to accommodate this.’

People will also be able to make donations of clothes, household items and furniture for the first time since lockdown. Anyone looking to donate should call the store before dropping anything off. Donors must also make sure all items are in good condition and have been cleaned, bagged, secured with tape and labelled wherever possible.
