Gloucestershire College’s degree-level apprenticeship in cyber security has been awarded Tech Industry Gold, the official industry accreditation for digital and technical degrees and degree apprenticeships.

A panel of experts found that the course, which is delivered by Gloucestershire College and UWE Bristol, meets all industry standards for quality, relevance and employer focus.

The Tech Industry Gold standard is maintained by Tech Partnership Degrees, an organisation which aims to bring employers and higher education providers together to introduce more new talent into the digital workforce.

Through its content, delivery and assessment, the Cyber Security degree apprenticeship arms learners with the applied skills and knowledge they need to go onto digital careers.

Apprentices on the programme gain technical, business and interpersonal skills, learning through a mixture of industry-relevant academic teaching, training and practice-based experience.

Ian Johnson and Phil Leg, co-directors of the UWE Cyber Academic Centre of Excellence, said: ‘To be accredited as Tech Industry Gold, programmes have to meet the rigorous standards set by industry for both content and delivery. Learning is focused on real world issues, and employers are actively involved throughout.’

Along with giving students confidence in the programme, the accreditation also assures employers that their new recruits, or existing employees enrolled on the course, will bring relevant skills and the latest industry knowledge to the team.

Gloucestershire College is committed to supporting local businesses by developing a strong pool of cyber talent in the region, helping to address a shortage of skills within the South West’s growing cyber security industry.
