Although Cheltenham Jazz Festival was cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Cheltenham Festivals announced today that Cheltenham Jazz Festival @ Home will take place on Saturday 9 May 2020.

Streamed live on the Cheltenham Festivals YouTube channel, the virtual festival will feature exclusive sets from Imelda May, Nitin Sawhney, Electric Lady Big Band and more.

There will also be a selection of the festival’s Westons Sessions from previous years streamed across the day, before handing over to Jamie Cullum on BBC Radio 2 at 8pm with highlights from the last 10 years of Cheltenham Jazz Festival, including Randy Crawford in concert from the 2018 event.

Head of programming for Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Dave Gaydon, said: ‘We’d like to say a huge thanks to all of the artists who have supported us in making this happen. To be able to create a virtual festival in three weeks has been amazing.

‘We are delighted that we can offer a flavour of the festival to those who, like us, were disappointed by the cancellation due to COVID-19 and hope that jazz lovers join us on their smartphone, smart TV or laptop and on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday 9 May as part of their Bank Holiday weekend plans.’

Plus, from Friday 8 May 2020, BBC Four will also make its Jazz 625 broadcasts created at last year’s festival, available to watch for three weeks, featuring performances from Gregory Porter, Jacqui Dankworth and Joshua Redman.
