Rediscover the glorious Gloucester Cathedral this summer with a host of fun challenges and activities to complete throughout the school holidays.
Running from Saturday 24 July until Sunday 5 September 2021, Gloucester Cathedral’s Summer Challenge invites big and little kids to have fun exploring the historic landmark, completing family-friendly activities along the way.
And best of all, many of the activities are totally free to complete! From sending a top-secret message through the Whispering Gallery; discovering the tomb of a murdered king; or playing dress-up in the Tribune Gallery – with costumes for grown-ups to get involved, too.
And while some involve a small cost, kids will love climbing to great heights on a Tower Tour or heading into the depths of the cathedral on a Crypt Tour.
With other activities including medieval games on the Cathedral Green; hugging a giant pillar in the Nave; and walking in the footsteps of Harry Potter, seeing where parts of the famous films were filmed in the Cloisters, families can have hours of fun this summer.
To get involved, simply pick up a free Summer Challenge sheet from the welcome desk.
After completing each one of the activities, children can collect a sticker which will help them piece together the picture of the Tower on the front of their activity sheet. There’s also the chance to win a special gold medal for finishing nine of the challenges.
Don’t forget to post your best snaps on social media, using the hashtag #GCsummerchallenge to share pictures as you complete the challenges!
Please note, the availability of some activities may vary depending on current Coronavirus restrictions. While the Tower and Crypt Tours are currently unavailable, they’re expected to resume later in the summer.
