With gin overtaking whisky as the nation’s favourite spirit, it’s safe to save that it’s become the drink of choice for many.
Gloucestershire certainly hasn’t escaped the gin renaissance, with bars and pubs across the county specialising in offering discerning drinkers a varied and interesting gin selection, not forgetting the crop of artisan distillers that are putting the county on the map.
We’ve found some of the best spots to indulge in Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds.
Gin fans will definitely want to have The Bell at Selsley on their radars, with the cosy pub, located just two miles from Stroud, benefitting from its own gin bar that has over 70 different types waiting to be sampled.
The pub also runs The Secret Gin Club, offering its members access to a top-shelf selection of premium gins, while there are also regular tasting events throughout the year. And if you want to stock up for your booze cabinet, the pub sells a variety by the bottle and in bespoke hampers.
Nestled in a charming Cotswold setting near Burford, The Maytime Inn is run by gin enthusiast Dominic Wood who has firmly established the pub as something of a gin lover’s paradise since he took over the reins.
Visitors to the cosy pub in Asthall can expect to find an impressive 100 varieties of gin on offer, including many from local distilleries along with those from further afield, while there are also 12 different tonics to choose from.
The elegant bar at Slaughters Manor House is the perfect spot to enjoy sampling some of the 16-or-so gins available at the luxurious Cotswold hotel, which is open to both guests and non-residents alike.
The selection of gin spans dry, citrus, fruity, floral and flavoured varieties, which are paired with garnishes to match their style, while those craving a cocktail can choose from an expertly-mixed Negroni, Tom Collins and more.
Alongside offering a traditional pub experience, The Keepers Arms in Quenington has over 15 gins to enjoy discovering, in addition to regular specials, with all paired with Fever-Tree tonic.
The gin list features a variety of different tipples from both near and far, including Cotswold Gin, Scottish Caorrun Gin, and Monkey 47, a unique spirit that comes from the Black Forest in Germany.
With over 80 gins to choose from, Colleys certain has plenty to entice fans of the juniper-based spirit to the award-winning restaurant and bar in Lechlade.
The gins are perfectly matched with tonic water and fresh botanicals, with the choice on offer spanning much-loved Hendrick’s, Adnams Copper House and Death’s Door.
Cheltenham’s Sibling Distillery is an award-winning family-run business that offers regular tours during which you can learn more about the gin-making process along with enjoying a sampling session in The Tasting Room.
The two-hour tour includes a cocktail demonstration and G&Ts for everyone, while there’s also an on-site shop where you can purchase a bottle to savour at home.
Serving over 400 gins from all over the world, The Feathers Hotel, boasts the accolade of being the first bar to be included in The Guinness Book of World Records for offering the greatest selection of gins on the planet!
The Cotswold hotel, located in Woodstock, has a dedicated Gin Bar which benefits from experienced staff who can guide seasoned gin lovers and novices alike through the impressive selection.
Located near Shipston-on-Stour, Cotswolds Distillery specialises in producing small batches of its award-winning Dry Gin, which features notes of pink grapefruit, fresh lime, cardamom and coriander seed to give it its aromatic twist.
The distillery, which is nestled in the beautiful Cotswold countryside, runs guided tours seven days a week and offers the chance to learn more about the distilling process, before ending up in the tasting room.
Nestled in the heart of the picture-perfect Cotswold village of Clanfield, The Cotswold Plough Hotel boasts a stellar selection of the tastiest gins in its very own Gin Pantry. Along with a vast collection of tonics and accompaniments, gin-loving guests will be spoilt for choice.
