If you’re looking to refresh your workouts, find a group exercise class, or try something completely new, SoGlos has rounded up a host of sessions taking place regularly in Gloucestershire.
Encompassing everything from trampoline fitness classes to revitalising yoga, there’s something for everyone in SoGlos’s new sport and fitness classes guide.
One of Gloucester’s most popular gym and sports centres, Riverside Sports and Leisure Club, incorporates a range of fitness classes with four separate gym rooms and a 20m pool. The venue also shares a sports hall with the nearby King’s School, perfect for 5-a-side football, netball, volley ball, indoor hockey and badminton. The hall is available to hire from 6pm on weekdays and on weekends. Fitness classes include circuits, cyclefit, Les Mills Bodypump and Bodycombat, Pilates, aqua aerobics and Legs Bums Tums. There’s also space for team sports on the four outdoor floodlit hard courts, or three indoor squash courts. Riverside’s four gym rooms are well equipped with weights; body conditioning equipment such as TRX frames, medicine balls, kettle bells and mats; and two cardiovascular gyms featuring bikes, treadmills, cross-trainers, steppers and rowing machines. The pool area also boasts a sauna and steam room, perfect for relaxing after a hard workout.
Riverside has an on-site creche, suitable for children between six weeks and four years old. The air-conditioned room is fully supervised by staff at all times, and includes a range of toys, play equipment and even a ball pit – so having little ones won’t stop you taking advantage of Riverside’s great facilities. The creche is open Monday to Friday from 9.20am until 11.20am and on Saturdays between 9.30am and 11.30am.
Riverside Sports and Leisure Club has three levels of membership. Peak membership costs £32.99 per month, Off Peak membership costs £22.99 per month and Junior membership costs £10.99 per month. None of the memberships tie users in to long contracts.
Peak membership provides unrestricted access to facilities and activities on Monday to Friday between 6.30am until 10pm, Saturdays between 7am and 9pm and Sundays between 8am and 9pm. Off Peak membership allows users to access the gym between 6.30am and 4.30pm on Monday to Friday and during unrestricted times on the weekend.
Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or complete beginner, The Isbourne in Cheltenham hosts weekly Flowing Yoga sessions with experienced teacher, Ann Morley. With more than 15 years’ experience, Ann’s fun and friendly classes take place on Saturday mornings, promising to give participants an energy boost for the weekend. Offering a well-rounded practice that’s suitable for all abilities, the class is designed to help improve balance and coordination, strengthen the body and increase resilience. Flowing Yoga can help you feel refreshed, focused and revitalised, encouraging a healthy body and mindset. The classes feature bodywork which lengthens and tones the muscles, along with breathwork and meditation to encourage you to embrace the present moment, calm the nervous system and centre yourself. Participants are asked to bring along a yoga mat and a cushion for meditation.
Offering a wide and varied events calendar that encompasses everything from meditation to aromatherapy and Reiki, The Isbourne has something for everyone. And if you’re looking for sessions to work on your health and fitness, there are plenty of regular classes to try throughout the week including revitalising yoga, Qi Gong and Tai Chi, Pilates, and belly dance.
Flowing Yoga sessions cost £10 each, or £30 for a four-session block, with five session blocks prices at £37.50.

East Glos Club is a friendly and sociable sports club in Cheltenham, specialising in tennis, squash, racketball and ladies’ hockey. Offering 28 tennis courts including artificial clay, astroturf, hard court and grass, there’s a surface for every type of game. In addition, 17 of the on-site courts benefit from flood lighting, so you can squeeze in a match anytime, night or day. It’s the perfect place for beginners, rusty returners and polished pros to improve their game; with a full coaching team on hand for one-on-one practice and group lessons. East Glos Club also boasts squash, hockey and racketball facilities. If you’ve got children in your family who’d love to join a sporting team, there’s a number of membership options available for young people and families. East Glos is also home to the Severn Division One of the Western Counties’ Hockey League. New members of all ages and abilities are always welcome. The friendly team at East Glos Club is always keen to show potential members around.
East Glos is also home to Cheltenham’s only racket sports specialist store. The pro shop offers a wide range of shoes, branded clothing and sports gear, and even offers professional racket stringing from its on-site experts.
East Glos is a members’ club with discounts available to those taking out a family membership, young people between 19 and 25, students, and juniors. There are also dual membership options available for players wanting to take advantage of both the tennis and squash facilities. Memberships can be paid monthly, or as a lump sum. Coaching sessions are also available to non-members.
East Glos Club is open to members seven days a week, with tennis courts available to book from 8am to 9pm and squash courts available from 7:30am to 9pm.
Offering one of the most comprehensive fitness and gymnastic facilities in the Cotswolds, Cotswold Clubhouse provides a range of regular fitness classes and structured gymnastic and trampolining sessions – suitable for both adults and children. Located within the Bourton-on-the-Water Industrial Park and just short walk from the centre of the village, the venue is open daily for Clubhouse Fitness classes, making it the ideal location for working out in the Cotswolds. Classes include Zumba, Insanity, and Yoga suitable for adults, toddlers, and babies. There’s also the opportunity to try Bosu classes, High Intensity Impact Training (HIIT), PiYo – which is a combination of Yoga and Pilates, and classes from One Fit Mama, which run in the gymnasium. In addition to the clubhouse’s traditional fitness classes, there’s also gymnastic and trampolining tuition classes taught by fully-qualified instructors. These classes are perfect for adult beginners or those returning to gymnastics, with facilities including a sprung floor, vaulting run, tumble track, bars and beams.
Cotswold Clubhouse offers a creche facility during all morning and afternoon fitness classes.
Activities in the creche include soft-play, messy play and sensory explorations, baking, playdough and painting. It’s suitable for children aged up to the age of four and is managed by staff qualified in early years education. Access to the creche is £2.50 for 90 minutes.
Adult fitness classes cost £6.50 per session on a pay-as-you-go basis. A block-booking scheme is also available where visitors can book 10 classes at once to take advantage of a discount. Gymnastics and Trampolining training for both adults and children is charged per-hour, with discounts available for the more hours you do.
Cotswold Clubhouse is open from 9.30am until 6pm on Monday to Saturday and 9.30am until 4pm on Sundays, only closing on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Fitness Classes run at 1.30pm and 6.45pm.
