Guide to wedding dresses for every body shape

With endless stunning styles out there, budding brides can find out which type of wedding dress will suit their shape, with SoGlosWeddings' guide.

Whether you’re straight up and down, have lovely curves, or need something to suit a petite figure, SoGlosWeddings has compiled a guide to help each bride-to-be find the perfect dress for them.

Encompassing shorter styles, strapless creations, ballgowns and much more, discover which dresses will suit your shape…

Make the most of those gorgeous curves with a dress that shows them off! Ladies with an hourglass figure should also go for a gown that accentuates their waist, choosing something that nips in for a flattering finish.

Styles: Confident ladies who want something that clings to their curves can choose a fishtail, mermaid, or trumpet-style gown. For something a little less daring, an A-line dress will work wonders, while a pretty belt is the perfect accessory to showcase that small waist!

Brides with a pear-shaped figure can emphasis the smaller top half of their body; for example, a dress which draws attention to the neckline, shoulders and small waist.

Styles: A strapless gown is perfect for pear shapes, showing off the top half of a bride’s body, while a detailed neckline has the same effect. Other options include an A-line dress, empire line dress, or ballgown.

Tall brides can pull off an array of styles, but should most likely avoid an empire line dress; with less definition, this style runs the risk of hiding the bride’s figure which can be unflattering.

Styles: From princess wedding dresses to sheath gowns, tall ladies can find a cut which suits their body; whether they’re proudest of their lovely long legs or willowy physique.

Smaller brides won’t want to wear a gown that drowns them; go for a style that’s simple but stunning, with embellishments and accessories perfect for that extra special sparkle.

Styles: If length is a tricky issue, there’s the chance to opt for a dress that’s short or has an asymmetrical hemline. Meanwhile for emphasising your best bits, choose a style that’s strapless, clinched in at the waist, or hip-hugging, for example.

If your shoulders are wider than your hips, find a beautiful dress which balances your body; avoid Bardot styles, halter necks, and strapless gowns which accentuate the upper body.

Styles: Focus the attention off your shoulders with a dramatic neckline, such as a V-neck or scooped neck. There’s also the option to follow in Kate Middleton or Meghan Markle’s steps and choose a gown with sleeves.

Apple-shaped figures are, by nature, voluptuous, with more weight places around the middle of the body. Thus, go for a dress which can add definition to the waist, and show off those legs if you wish!

Styles: A dropped waist dress is the perfect option, while V-necks and embellishments around the neckline can also work to flatter the physique, drawing attention to the upper chest.

Brides with a straight or sporty figure tend to have a less-defined waist. For this reason, choose a style of dress which creates the illusion of curves.

Styles: Create shape by choosing a gorgeous dress with a full skirt, such as a ballgown. For understated elegance, a high neckline or embellishment are ideal for complementing a straight figure.
