Vintage enthusiasts all over the county will be thrilled that the hugely popular Gloucester Goes Retro festival is returning this summer.

The free event, taking place on Saturday 27 August 2022, sees Gloucester’s historic Gate Streets transported back in time, with Westgate Street spanning the 1900s to 1949; Northgate Street representing the 1950s; Eastgate Street representing the swinging 60s; and Southgate Street going back to the disco era of the 1970s and 80s.

More than 500 historic vehicles are set to line the streets, with everything from vintage motorcycles; classic cars from the likes of Aston Martin, Bentley, Jensen, Morris and Triumph; to military vehicles and tanks.

There’ll be music from the 1930s to the 1960s and swing dancing on the main stage at Gloucester Docks, with a backdrop of a full-scale replica Spitfire plane; plus there’ll be roaming reenactors, Star Wars characters and cosplayers all around the city centre, as well as organ performances of classic tunes at Gloucester Cathedral.

Councillor Andrew Lewis said: ‘We are delighted that Gloucester Goes Retro will once again be celebrated in our vibrant city. In previous years, we have seen more than 80,000 visitors join us to celebrate bygone eras, with a huge and positive economic impact for our businesses and attractions.

‘So, choose your favourite era, don your costume of choice, and we very much look forward to seeing you there.’
