Cheltenham Music Festival returns for its first full-scale event since 2019 from Friday 8 to Saturday 16 July 2022.

Bringing some of the biggest names in classical music to the Regency town, the event spans spectacular orchestral performances, intimate concerts and new music premieres.

Highlights include the Kanneh-Mason Duo performing at Pittville Pump Room; Sergei Dogadin and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto at Cheltenham Town Hall; New English Ballet Theatre celebrating the work of six female choreographers at the Everyman Theatre; London Mozart Players performing with Martin James Bartlett, Ben Goldscheider and Ben Johnson at Cheltenham Town Hall; and British Sinfonietta, the choristers of Gloucester Cathedral, local choirs and leading soloists conducted by Adrian Partington performing Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 at Gloucester Cathedral.

Alongside world premieres from Conor Mitchell and Claire Victoria Roberts, there’ll be Music and Mindfulness presented by Will Crawford celebrating the link between meditation and music to help manage stress; Hilary Summers and Andrew West going on a romp through ‘the wild world of opera’ over afternoon tea at The Daffodil; and the fantastic Classical Mixtape returns to Gloucester Cathedral, providing one of the most laid-back ways to discover music – with performances from The Manchester Collective, the Choir of Merton College Oxford, accordionist Samuele Telari and organist Jonathan Hope.

The new head of programming at Cheltenham Music Festival, Michael Duffy, said: ‘It’s fantastic to be able to fully welcome back audiences to Cheltenham following two years of disruption. As a newcomer to the festival, I’m hugely indebted to Camilla King, my predecessor, for putting this year’s programme together.

‘I hope that audiences will find a rich variety of the familiar and the new, from orchestral spectaculars in Cheltenham Town Hall to more unusual and intimate offerings, international artists and new talent, two new commissions examining the nature of relationships, dance, walks and talks.’

Tickets for Cheltenham Music Festival go on general sale at cheltenhamfestivals.com/music on Friday 1 April 2022.
