Stroud Valleys Project is launching a crowdfunder this Earth Day, Friday 22 April 2022, to help it raise money for a ‘Woodland Wizard’.

The charity has seven days to raise £2,500 through its crowdfunding campaign, in order to earn match funding from the Big Give – and is encouraging the people of Stroud to make a donation by Friday 29 April 2022, to help it reach its target.

The money raised will be used to fund a ‘Woodland Wizard’, who will work with volunteers, helping to plant thousands of native trees across Stroud’s Five Valleys area.

The Stroud-based charity was selected from hundreds of applications to be a part of the Green Match Fund, where every £1 donated, up to £2,500, will be matched by the Big Give.

Stroud Valleys Project CEO, Clare Mahdiyone, said: ‘If we can raise £2,500 between Friday 22 April and Friday 29 April 2022, the Big Give will donate another £2,500.

‘We’re raising this money to fund a Woodland Wizard – a project leader to spearhead this year’s campaign of replenishing our depleted native woodland across our county. We need a skilled conservationist who is also able to support volunteers to take part in successful tree planting.

‘As well as making Stroud a better place to live and giving opportunities for our volunteers to work together and learn new skills, it’s also a way of battling climate change on a local level – an easy way for the people of Stroud to take action that has a genuine impact, locally and globally.’

The Big Give Green Match campaign launches at midday on Earth Day, Friday 22 April 2022.
